BALLADS AND CANTILENAS: HAMLET, by PAUL FORT First Line: Hamlet, whom the cracked brains of others importune, has made the Last Line: "thrice I've made the tour of the world, and was sure I'd meet you there." Subject(s): Shakespeare - Hamlet; Travel; Journeys; Trips | ||||||||
Hamlet, whom the cracked brains of others importune, has made the tour of the world; but it avails him naught. He still sees Elsinore beneath the waning moon. Hamlet has made the tour of the world, as he does all, in thought. His shadow on the wall that doth towards Rome incline, he hears the nightingale, clear warbler, passion-fraught. Imperial Caesar's ash between the stones doth shine. Hamlet has made the tour of the world, as he does all, in thought. Three times has Hamlet made the tour of his chateau. And this then is the world! And Yorick is the moon? Yorick's skull? In what a coil of madness he is caught! Hamlet has made the tour of the world, as he does all, in thought. Beneath the oblong tower that dusks the esplanade, a father's phantom pale begins his promenade. Why, what a narrow world! "Sire, would you wandering fare? Thrice I've made the tour of the world, and was sure I'd meet you there." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
