CONTRADICTION, by ELIZABETH E. FOULKE First Line: Today the wind toys with the trees Last Line: Are you the wind, shall I believe? Subject(s): Wind | ||||||||
Today the wind toys with the trees As if to set them at their ease -- His movements gentle, sure to please. Last night in sullen, vengeful mood, He flayed their limbs -- a vandal rude, Till crumpled leaves the pavement strewed. How can such ways be reconciled -- Now, gentle, now tempestuous, wild? Both friend and foe, shall he be styled? And you -- so loving yester-eve Beginning now, to make me grieve!
