POMPEY HEIGHTS, by ALBERT VANN FOWLER First Line: When autumn fills the valleys Last Line: Its icy freshets yet. Subject(s): Nature; Rain; Seasons | ||||||||
When autumn fills the valleys That dream of summer still, The first thin snow of winter Lies white on Pompey Hill. The rain that falls on stubble In harvest fields below Drifts lightly down on Pompey As feather-crystal snow. In spring the angry torrents Down all the gullies run Before the Pompey snowfields Yield to the mounting sun. The wooded slopes in April With trilliums are set While Pompey Hill is swelling Its icy freshets yet. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NO AUTUMN IN MY COUNTRY by MEENA ALEXANDER AFTER TU FU (THEY SAY YOU'RE STAYING IN A MOUNTAIN TEMPLE) by MARVIN BELL HE HAD A GOOD YEAR by MARVIN BELL SO IT'S TODAY by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR CONTRA MORTEM: THE FALL by HAYDEN CARRUTH FULFILLMENT by ALBERT VANN FOWLER TO BE CLOSELY WRITTEN ON A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS |
