SUN HOLIDAY, by
First Line: The sun has gone on a holiday
Last Line: May not come again.
Subject(s): Rain

The sun has gone on a holiday
And left the world to rain
That pelts the leaves with jewels of light
And flings at my window-pane
A diamond-shower of glistening tears
When I refuse to play.
But I have other things to do
When the sun has gone away.

I am painting pictures on my heart
That years cannot erase;
Willows swaying in the wind
In long wet veils of lace;
Maples tossed in silver light;
Fireglow in my room
Dancing over paneled oak,
Golden in the gloom.

Lovely pictures such as these
Cannot wait for birth
Till the sunlight dries the tears
From the face of earth.
I would like to go outside
And lift my face to rain...
But a silver day like this
May not come again.
