SUN HOLIDAY, by NORINE FREEMAN First Line: The sun has gone on a holiday Last Line: May not come again. Subject(s): Rain | ||||||||
The sun has gone on a holiday And left the world to rain That pelts the leaves with jewels of light And flings at my window-pane A diamond-shower of glistening tears When I refuse to play. But I have other things to do When the sun has gone away. I am painting pictures on my heart That years cannot erase; Willows swaying in the wind In long wet veils of lace; Maples tossed in silver light; Fireglow in my room Dancing over paneled oak, Golden in the gloom. Lovely pictures such as these Cannot wait for birth Till the sunlight dries the tears From the face of earth. I would like to go outside And lift my face to rain... But a silver day like this May not come again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DISTANT RAINFALL by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHAMBER MUSIC: 32 by JAMES JOYCE HEAVY SUMMER RAIN by JANE KENYON CROWD CORRALLING by MARGARET AVISON THE RAIN-POOL by KARLE WILSON BAKER ON THE GREAT ATLANTIC RAINWAY by KENNETH KOCH |
