LINES TO THE MISSISSIPPI, by GERTRUDE FRENCH First Line: O waters great! What mysteries thy hidden depths conceal! Last Line: For thy sweet sleep that thou alone canst give for ever-more. Subject(s): Mississippi | ||||||||
O waters great! What mysteries thy hidden depths conceal! Yes, many humbly come to thy generous shrine to kneel And beg a solace there so sweet to quench the weighted heart Welcoming the joy of peace that thy secret doth impart. O father of waters! How mighty are thy hungry waves! Yea, many crouch in obeisance to be thy lasting slaves; Anguished tears and broken hearts impatiently implore For thy sweet sleep that thou alone canst give for ever-more. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MISSISSIPPI ANATOMY by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN ON A HIGHWAY EAST OF SELMA, ALABAMA; JULY 1965 by GREGORY ORR THE LULLABY OF MISSISSIPPI by K.
