THE RUIN, by MERLE FULLMER First Line: About this place there drifts a sense of peace Last Line: Their monuments, to crumble and reveal. Subject(s): Decay; Past; Ruins; Rot; Decadence | |||
About this place there drifts a sense of peace, Of fulsome days and rosy twilights when, On cool-cropped lawn, young children found release, And shouted with the wind against their brows. Out of the past a fragrant incense darts Of wood smoke, and a high thin note is set To merge with dreams. The broken things and hearts The world forgets, turn silently to dust; While round about, men pound and build in steel Their monuments, to crumble and reveal. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PUT BACK THE DARK by MARVIN BELL PUTREFACTION by CHARLES BUKOWSKI WHAT COULD HAPPEN by DORIANNE LAUX SURFACE AND STRUCTURE: BONAVENTURE HOTEL, LOS ANGELES by KAREN SWENSON SEVEN ODES TO SEVEN NATURAL PROCESSES: ODE TO ROT by JOHN UPDIKE RESURRECTION UPDATE by JAMES GALVIN |
