THE HEART'S WINTER, by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY Poet's Biography First Line: Farewell! We part as ne'er before Last Line: Its joyous, happy hours! Subject(s): Cold; Farewell; Hearts; Love - Loss Of; Solitude; Parting; Loneliness | ||||||||
FAREWELL! we part as ne'er before I've parted been from thee, For we, alas, shall meet no more Upon Life's troubled sea! We met when Summer's glorious prime Poured radiance o'er the earth, When breezes, as of southern clime, Woo'd the young blossoms forth. No blossoms now their leaves unfold, No fragrant zephyrs blow; And the long night, so dark and cold, Steals silent o'er the snow. Thus o'er my heart stern shadows speed, There reigns a deeper night; For I have "sown the wind" for seed, And "reaped the whirlwind's" might! The summer will, ere long, restore To earth her fragrant flowers, But to my heart it brings no more Its joyous, happy hours! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES ABSENCE by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY AN HOUR WITH FANCY by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY ASPIRATIONS TO THE INFINITE; ADDRESSED TO A FRIEND by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY |
