MAN AGAINST BEAST, by
First Line: The bull is angry, smarting from the lash
Last Line: And man will find his need for struggle ceased.
Subject(s): Rodeos

The bull is angry, smarting from the lash.
Now ride, cowboy, crowd in closer -- fast!
See the bony spears, take care, they gash.
Leap from the saddle, seize the horns -- at last!
Brace, cowboy, against the maddened lust;
Tugging -- straining -- twist his neck around,
Slowly bend his head and writhe in the dust,
A mighty jerk, he tumbles, inert on the ground.

It's done, the bull jumps nimbly to his feet
And trots away with frightened dodging pace;
So like a habit, forcing man's retreat,
Which weakens when confronted face to face.
One sharp decisive battle with the beast
And man will find his need for struggle ceased.
