MAN AGAINST BEAST, by MABEL E. GEYER First Line: The bull is angry, smarting from the lash Last Line: And man will find his need for struggle ceased. Subject(s): Rodeos | ||||||||
The bull is angry, smarting from the lash. Now ride, cowboy, crowd in closer -- fast! See the bony spears, take care, they gash. Leap from the saddle, seize the horns -- at last! Brace, cowboy, against the maddened lust; Tugging -- straining -- twist his neck around, Slowly bend his head and writhe in the dust, A mighty jerk, he tumbles, inert on the ground. It's done, the bull jumps nimbly to his feet And trots away with frightened dodging pace; So like a habit, forcing man's retreat, Which weakens when confronted face to face. One sharp decisive battle with the beast And man will find his need for struggle ceased. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE DEAD BRONCHO-BUSTER by BERTON BRALEY THE LAST RODEO by LILLIAN CAROLINE CANFIELD SOUTH BY WEST: OLD MATA by EDNA TARVER GOING TO THE SHAWNEE RODEO by DON BELL LEGACY OF THE RODEO MAN by BAXTER BLACK RODEO TANGENT by KENDRA BORGMANN GOOD RODEO FAIRY by JAMES RICHARD BROUGHTON RODEO by DIANA DER-HOVANESSIAN |
