NIGHT, by BEATRICE RUTH GIBBS First Line: When all the streets are bright with lamps again Last Line: That night is once again a lovely thing. Subject(s): Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
When all the streets are bright with lamps again And light streams out from every window-pane, Then in my heart, each gay and brilliant night, I shall be thankful for the gift of light. When but a nightingale sings to the sky, And only lovers' feet go softly by, Then in a world the moon and stars possess I shall be thankful for deep quietness. When all the danger of the night has gone, And gently, peacefully, the hours tick on, Then with true thankfulness my heart will sing, That night is once again a lovely thing. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN HERITAGE by BEATRICE RUTH GIBBS |
