LIGHT, by PEMBERTON GINTHER First Line: God made the merry morning Last Line: For madness that will match the crash of growing worlds! Subject(s): God; Laughter; Light; Morning | ||||||||
God made the merry morning. It comes, sure-footed, at the zero hour To drag spent hope from the pit's brink. A comrade, the morning, that will not quail Nor halt. Laughter is on its lips, its eyes Are full of triumph, and warm blood flows From its quick heart into the pulse That's beating slow from dread. Here is the sun! What! did we shudder At our mad acts? In the bright dawn We know them as they are -- another rung In the frail ladder that goes up and up. Stripped of night's pallor, they show strong And sound . . . only a fool is cautious. Come, here's a day for towering hopes, For madness that will match the crash of growing worlds! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MORNING SONG by KARLE WILSON BAKER THE WHARF ON THAMES-SIDE: WINTER DAWN by LAURENCE BINYON POEM BEFORE BREAKFAST by TED KOOSER I'VE BEEN ASLEEP by PHILIP LEVINE SPRNG DAY: BREAKFAST TABLE by AMY LOWELL THE WAYSIDE STATION by EDWIN MUIR POSSESSION by PEMBERTON GINTHER I KNOW, I REMEMBER, BUT HOW CAN I HELP YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
