NIGHTFALL, by GAILEEN GREENLEE First Line: When twilight shadows softly fall Last Line: Nightfall. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
When twilight shadows softly fall, And peaceful rest is nigh, I hear again the night call, As it goes soaring by. The rabbits find a sheltered place, The cricket chirps near. I hear the coyote's howl far off, Its voice so plaintive clear. The barnyard family is asleep, Or in a quiet rest; The sun has slipped beyond the deep, But left its glory in the west. A breeze stirs faintly through the trees, Reigning kingdom over all; The vesper of the departed day Rests on God's world. Nightfall. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE SONG: SO OFTEN, SO LONG I HAVE THOUGHT by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
