LIBERTY, by JENNIE SCOTT GRIFFITHS First Line: Sworn to no creed am I / fearless of what Last Line: The laws of liberty. Subject(s): Freedom; Liberty | ||||||||
Sworn to no creed am I: Fearless of what may be Behind the grinning mask of life, I want Truth's face to see. Man knows the law of flood; The law of flower and tree; Man knows the beasts and birds -- I want to know the "me." Out of the misty deep -- Down from the star-decked sky; Up from the heat of earth -- Whence came and what am I? The freedom to explore, The right to seek and see -- These are the only creeds I know, The laws of Liberty. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOVE THE WILD SWAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS AFTER TENNYSON by AMBROSE BIERCE QUARTET IN F MAJOR by WILLIAM MEREDITH CROSS THAT LINE by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE EMANCIPATION by ELIZABETH ALEXANDER THE BRACELET: TO JULIA by ROBERT HERRICK |
