THAT YEAR, by
First Line: It stands alone and so it must remain
Last Line: To be alive—that year you made divine.

It stands alone and so it must remain:
No other time will ever seem to me
As much a part of perfect harmony.
Upon it rested no defiling stain,
Nor was it marred by poverty or pain.
That year was like no other that will be,
And I will revel in its memory—
Well do I know it will not come again.

For every day I looked into your eyes,
And every day I heard your tender voice,
And I was yours and you were wholly mine.
My wealth was limitless, and I could rise
Above all human ills. I could rejoice
To be alive—that year you made divine.
