A SONG IN JUNE, by ARTHUR GUITERMAN Poet's Biography First Line: On a rosebush that grows in the garden you Last Line: And it would not be june if it were not for you. Subject(s): Flowers; June; New York City - Dutch Period; Orioles; Roses; Singing & Singers; Songs | |||
On a rosebush that grows in the garden you love There are three opening buds on a single green stem; And they dream as they nod to your window above That it would not be June if it were not for them. There's an oriole brave as a prince on his throne In his orange-and-black in the mulberry-tree. As he flutes to a world that he knows for his own, "Oh, it would not be June if it were not for me!" Let the oriole sing to the earth and the sky, And the roses unfold to the kiss of the dew! But the light of my soul is the glance of your eye, And it would not be June if it were not for you. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY |
