THUNDERSTORM, by ARTHUR GUITERMAN Poet's Biography First Line: The smiths of the heavens are mending the weather Last Line: Proclaims to the world that the weather is mended. Subject(s): New York City - Dutch Period; Storms | ||||||||
The smiths of the heavens are mending the weather; Their hammers are beating the fragments together. The cumulus mountains with nebulous gorges Are dazzled with flame of the wind-bellowsed forges; The cloud-pillared anvils with silvery edges Resound to the thunderous fall of the sledges; Till broadening patches of azure are showing Storm-welded, rain-tempered, and, splendidly glowing, The rainbow, from valley to valley extended, Proclaims to the world that the weather is mended. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STORM AT HOPTIME by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN THERE IS A SOLEMN WIND TONIGHT by KATHERINE MANSFIELD DEWEY AND DANCER by JOSEPHINE MILES MICHAEL IS AFRAID OF THE STORM by GWENDOLYN BROOKS BREACHING THE ROCK by MADELINE DEFREES THE CLOUDS ABOVE THE OCEAN by STEPHEN DOBYNS OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE TREMENDOUS WIND AND RAIN by ANSELM HOLLO |
