ABOVE, by HAROLD STRONG GULLIVER First Line: A red bird flew across the suwanee river Last Line: To what was true. Subject(s): Birds | ||||||||
A red bird flew across the Suwanee river And on its breast The rising sun, of warmth and life the Giver, Found perfect rest. The shadows deep of cypress and oleander Were on the earth, And in dark shade those blind black waters meander; Above was new birth. And for a moment life's dark fate was lifted And all was new; For swamp and mire and evil clouds were rifted To what was true. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...GLIMPSES OF THE BIRDS by JOHN HOLLANDER GLIMPSES OF THE BIRDS by JOHN HOLLANDER AUDUBON EXAMINES A BITTERN by ANDREW HUDGINS DISPATCHES FROM DEVEREUX SLOUGH by MARK JARMAN A COUNTRY LIFE by RANDALL JARRELL CANADIAN WARBLER by GALWAY KINNELL YELLOW BIRD by KENNETH SLADE ALLING THE CRIPPLE by KARLE WILSON BAKER |
