VILLANELLE OF RAINFALL, by

Last Line: Merciless falls the rain.

He will not come again.
I shall withhold my tears
And listen to the rain.

I watch the sad hour wane;
These pangs eclipse my fears,
Since he comes not again.

Harsh is the thrust of pain,
Merciless are his spears --
Merciless as the rain.

In sorrow's somber train
Shall pass the empty years.
He will not come again.

Here where his head has lain
My heart is big with tears
As a swollen cloud with rain.

To weep for love is vain.
Stopped is my flask of tears,
Blunt are the spears of pain;
Merciless falls the rain.
