HOUSE OF PRAYER, by FREDA HAMMERSLOUGH First Line: What is a house of prayer? Last Line: We lived with god a day. Subject(s): God; Prayer; Religion; Theology | ||||||||
What is a house of prayer? A place where one may go And cast all heavy care, Where silence and sweet peace Fill all the empty space Until our sorrows cease. Where restfulness abounds And music fills the air With soft and holy sounds, Where we may meditate Upon the stir without And find a heavenly grace To settle Godless doubt. Into the recessed hall Where quiet reigns supreme We linger for a time And think what life might mean! Outside the rush and noise Go on their jangling way But for a little while We lived with God a day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY CONSECRATED GROUND; READ AT THE NEW YORK CITY HALL by EDWIN MARKHAM |
