MY GARDEN, by HAZEL HANNA First Line: Bluebells are nodding / so quaintly nearby Last Line: Elves, toads and bees. Subject(s): Summer | ||||||||
Bluebells are nodding So quaintly nearby; Poised in the air Is a pert butterfly, Bees, nectar-laden, Are flying so slow I almost can touch them As past me they go. A humming bird comes, And then quickly it dips Into some lovely flower, And hastily sips, Then swiftly away On the soft summer air, And leaves me alone In my garden there. My thoughts try to follow But lazily stop, As I watch a small toad Going hoppity-hop. He spies a big fly, And before I can think The fly disappears As quick as a wink! The flowers nod gaily, And talk 'mong themselves; I think very likely They're hiding some elves. But I'll not disturb them, They're part of the plan To help us see beauty Wherever we can. How lovely a place Is my garden to me, With flowers and butterflies, Elves, toads and bees. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ADVANCE OF SUMMER by MARY KINZIE THE SUMMER IMAGE by LEONIE ADAMS CANOEBIAL BLISS by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY THE END OF SUMMER by HENRY MEADE BLAND THE FARMER'S BOY: SUMMER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD SONNET: 14.
