RESURRECTION, by HAZEL HANNA First Line: The blessed christ on calvary Last Line: Our master lives again! Subject(s): Easter; Holidays; The Resurrection | ||||||||
The Blessed Christ on Calvary Looked down upon the scene; At loved ones bowing at His feet, Then darkness reigned supreme. Before the evening sun had set They came with loving hands, And gently took His body down; 'Twas wrapped in linen bands. Then carefully in Joseph's tomb, Their Master they did lay, And closed and sealed it up and then They sadly went away. The Sabbath passed; the third day dawned, And down the garden path A weeping woman came alone, To view the aftermath. But when she near and nearer came A strange sight met her eyes; The great stone had been rolled away -- The tomb contained no Christ. Back down the path, with saddened heart, She goes, with footsteps weary; She feels a presence, hears a voice -- Her Lord is saying, "Mary." A blessed peace comes over all; The garden wakes to singing; The Christ has risen, as He said; Her heart with joy is ringing. Oh, Blessed Easter! May our hearts Repeat that glad refrain, So all the work may hear and know Our Master lives again! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER EVE by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON NOT THE CUCKOLD'S DREAM; FOR SAM PEREIRA by NORMAN DUBIE EASTER HYMN by GEORGE SANTAYANA I DEFINE THE DARKNESS CORRECT: THE FESTIVAL OF THE FRERES LUMIERES by ELENI SIKELIANOS |
