SOMEWHERE A DAWN, by KATHARINE WASHBURN HARDING First Line: Dawn now lifts eagerly her lovely head Last Line: Swift falls a veil and they are one again. Subject(s): Dawn; Sunrise | ||||||||
Dawn now lifts eagerly her lovely head And tears away the curtain of the night; Glistening and clear drop crystal ropes of light That banish soon the last, dark, flying shred. Winds sigh themselves awake and softly lift The damp, sweet incense of unfolding flowers, Bringing rebirth of unforsaken hours Filled with strange memories that drift and drift. Somewhere I knew a dawn like amethyst Sunk faintly in a lost ten thousand years; I feel the shadowy impress of old fears, While broken notes of birds stir through the mist, -- Twin moments hung in time's abyss, and then Swift falls a veil and they are one again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BURNING DAWN by HAYDEN CARRUTH DAWN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON IN THE GARDEN AT THE DAWN HOUR by EDGAR LEE MASTERS EARLY RISER by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE WORDS WHEN WE NEED THEM by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE AND THERE WAS NO MORE SEA by KATHARINE WASHBURN HARDING THESE PINES by KATHARINE WASHBURN HARDING AN ODE ON THE UNVEILING OF THE SHAW MEMORIA BOSTON COMMON, MAY 31, 1897 by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH |
