Women of beauty, golden-sandal shod, Passionate Sappho, Trojan Helen fair, Glamorous are the golden shoes they wear Almost too beautiful to touch the sod. Often I cannot help but think it odd You single out for such adoring care A pair of little feet all white and bare, But when you kneel to kiss, I pray to God. Gift of my darling, gold that is the sheerest, Delicate, dainty, exquisitely neat Ever I'll hold him closest and nearest, Eager to serve and make each moment sweet, Give him such joy that he will think his dearest Dances through life on golden-sandalled feet! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI |
