HOLIDAY HOURS, by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Dear boy, let us think of the pleasures Last Line: The sportive delights of the holiday hours. Alternate Author Name(s): Browne, Felicia Dorothea Subject(s): Brothers & Sisters; Holidays | ||||||||
DEAR boy, let us think of the pleasures in spring, When the season is welcomed with garlands of flowers; How thy moments will fly with delight on the wing, How thy fancy will dwell on the holiday hours. And sweet are those moments the young bosom knows, Preceding the social endearments of home; Where maternal affection so tenderly glows, And invokes the gay holiday pleasures to come. And oh! my sweet boy, when our years shall expand, When we wander no more through our favorite bowers; Perhaps we may sigh for the pleasures so bland, The sportive delights of the holiday hours. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAROL: NEW STYLE by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET INDEPENDENCE DAY by WENDELL BERRY EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOOD FRIDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON FOR THE NEW YEAR (2) by ROBERT CREELEY A DIRGE (1) by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS |
