Dear Mona, asleep by the wonder well Where moon-woven flax spins the thread to tie Into the star-mured haven where you dwell, That strange realm where transcendent singers lie; Hidden by thin waxen curtains, your eyes Are so strangely veiled from the strident day, That javelins from the midnight skies Cannot pierce and disturb your tranquil way. Dear vague dream-dreamer, by your still, cold side There must be burning candles warm and bright, I would not ask again that you should ride Under the chilling clouds of yester-night; For snooded in death's perfect cloth-repose, Singing no more, you have left me ... a rose. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY A PRAYER FOR GREAT MEN OF THE NATIONS by MAE BAKER HENLINE |
