CRYSTAL CARAVANS UNTO THE PURPLE PALISADES, by ALICE FERRIN HENSEY First Line: Unto the purple palisades that stand Last Line: Of our far land of dreams. Subject(s): Caravans; Gardens & Gardening; Landscape | ||||||||
Unto the purple palisades that stand Majestic sentinels of those dim lands That lie beyond the farthest silver rim Of our far land of dreams, across the silver sands Move crystal caravans divinely laden With gauzy merchandise of stuff celestial Not sold in any mart known to gray mortals, But caught at random in the hands of rapture From the gay heaped-up stuff of life's bazaars: Love's pale cool buds that never flowered in passion But shed the deathless perfume of devotion; Bright cages frail as gilded spider's web Where jewelled birds in song ecstatic flutter; Slim emerald trees ablaze with flashing prisms And gold with apples of Hesperides; Toy boats spice-laden, sailing turquoise rivers That wind thru painted landscapes of new Edens. And over all, hope's gorgeous banners waving. Thus move the crystal caravans divinely laden With gauzy merchandise of stuff celestial, Unto the purple palisades that stand Majestic sentinels of those dim lands That lie beyond the farthest silver rim Of our far land of dreams. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE PLACE FOR NO STORY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS VARIATIONS ON A NEO-CLASSIC THEME by DONALD JUSTICE DIRGE AT THE END OF THE WOODS by LEONIE ADAMS KENNST DU DAS LAND by LEONIE ADAMS INVITATION TO A PAINTER: 3 by WILLIAM ALLINGHAM SONNET: 19.
