IT was a hungry pussy cat, upon Thanksgiving morn, And she watched a thankful little mouse, that ate an ear of corn. "If I ate that little mouse, how thankful he should be, When he has made a meal himself, to make a meal for me; Then with his thanks for having fed, and his thanks for feeding me, With all HIS thankfulness inside, how thankful I shall be!" Thus mused the hungry pussy cat, upon Thanksgiving Day; But the little mouse had overheard and declined (with thanks) to stay. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FIRST THANKSGIVING by SHARON OLDS THE SACHEM OF THE CLOUDS (A THANKSGIVING LEGEND) by ROBERT FROST INVENTORY by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE THANKSGIVING IN BOSTON HARBOR [JUNE 12, 1630] by HEZEKIAH BUTTERWORTH THANKSGIVING DAY by LYDIA MARIA CHILD SIGNS OF THE TIMES by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR THE LANDING OF THE PILGRIM FATHERS IN NEW ENGLAND [NOVEMBER 19, 1620] by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS THE PILGRIM FATHERS by JOHN PIERPONT LIMERICK by OLIVER BROOK HERFORD |
