RAIN POOL, by DAISY FAULKNER HICKERSON First Line: I glimpsed a lovely apparition Last Line: "in countless circlets, meeting and sweeping into one." Subject(s): Rain | ||||||||
I glimpsed a lovely apparition That followed in the Summer shower's wake; 'Twas a diminutive, bare-foot maiden 'Neath a glistening, dripping maple tree, Wading in a sky-reflecting pool Which mirrored a green and leafy background, With a bit of Heaven peeping and creeping through. When from the wet and swaying branches, Close above her auburn, curly head, Sprinkled belated, roseate raindrops Dimpling up the placid, finite pool, The wee maid cried, "See what you have done: Shattered my clear, blue, rain-pool mirror In countless circlets, meeting and sweeping into one." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DISTANT RAINFALL by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHAMBER MUSIC: 32 by JAMES JOYCE HEAVY SUMMER RAIN by JANE KENYON CROWD CORRALLING by MARGARET AVISON THE RAIN-POOL by KARLE WILSON BAKER ON THE GREAT ATLANTIC RAINWAY by KENNETH KOCH EGOTISM OF PAN by DAISY FAULKNER HICKERSON COUNTRY SCHOOLROOM, ADIRONDACK MOUNTAINS by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
