RAIN POOL, by
First Line: I glimpsed a lovely apparition
Last Line: "in countless circlets, meeting and sweeping into one."
Subject(s): Rain

I glimpsed a lovely apparition
That followed in the Summer shower's wake;
'Twas a diminutive, bare-foot maiden
'Neath a glistening, dripping maple tree,
Wading in a sky-reflecting pool
Which mirrored a green and leafy background,
With a bit of Heaven peeping and creeping through.

When from the wet and swaying branches,
Close above her auburn, curly head,
Sprinkled belated, roseate raindrops
Dimpling up the placid, finite pool,
The wee maid cried, "See what you have done:
Shattered my clear, blue, rain-pool mirror
In countless circlets, meeting and sweeping into one."
