SAN ANTONIO MEMORIES, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: Beneath the arches dark, on green
Last Line: All loveliness is san antone.
Subject(s): Alamo; San Antonio, Texas

Beneath the arches dark, on green,
By yellowed walls of ancient stone;
Once more, as by that sapphire stream,
My heart goes back to San Antone!

Through sun-embowered Brackenridge,
I, Sunken Gardens walk, alone;
And seem to hear strum in my ear
An old guitar's quaint, Spanish tone.

The lily-pools bloom winter-long,
The zoo-cries mix with cascade's moan;
From long ago, the Alamo --
Fame -- sleepy -- calls to San Antone.

Sam Houston sits upon the heights,
And listens to war-eagles drone,
His red roofs seen for miles away
On sunny days in San Antone.
Oh, take me back where palm-fronds sway,
And Mexic music greets its own...
To San Jose, some holiday...
All loveliness is San Antone.
