POEMS FROM NA KEIKI O HAWAII: PRAYER FOR BIDDY, by
First Line: Biddy wouldn't eat her corn
Last Line: "she'll be all dead by then."
Subject(s): Hens; Prayer

Biddy wouldn't eat her corn.
Don stood by so sad, forlorn.
She lay there, a little heap,
Wouldn't cluck, or even peep;
Mother and he were in the yard.
She said to him, "Think hard
What to do for Biddy here."
Donald said, "Pray, dear."
"You pray, Don, won't you son?
Dinner's cooking, I must run."
"I only pray at night. Poor hen!
She'll be all dead by then."
