BEFORE THE END OF DAY, by
First Line: The brief, drab interval between
Last Line: Of rose and blue and white . . .
Subject(s): Evening; Seasons; Trees; Sunset; Twilight

The brief, drab interval between
The final days of fall
And fast approaching winter-time
Halts growing things and all
About is stamped with steady grayness, yet
I once saw sunset break
Through just before the end of day
And things commence to take
New meaning for the beautiful --
The black and homely trees
Looked slick and prosperous beside
Such cultured sceneries,
And sloppy, heavy-laden clouds
That threatened through the day
To drop from weariness, puffed up
And sailed on feeling gay,
While ordinary window panes
Were rainbowed with a bright
Reflection from the handsome sky
Of rose and blue and white . . .
