THE GRASS COMES, by
First Line: The grass, the glad green grass
Last Line: Has washed away the brown.
Subject(s): April; Fields; Spring; Pastures; Meadows; Leas

The grass, the glad green grass
Fell in the April rain today.
Before, we sought it out
In favored haunts, beside the little streams,
Caressed each blade, and wrote of it
In diary pages.
We grew somewhat impatient, marveling
How all the earth could turn to greenness so,
Small leaf by leaf.
And then today, when I looked out
This loveliness on lawn and pastureland
Had fallen, or the magic rain
Has washed away the brown.
