THE GRASS COMES, by A. JEAN HOLMES First Line: The grass, the glad green grass Last Line: Has washed away the brown. Subject(s): April; Fields; Spring; Pastures; Meadows; Leas | ||||||||
The grass, the glad green grass Fell in the April rain today. Before, we sought it out In favored haunts, beside the little streams, Caressed each blade, and wrote of it In diary pages. We grew somewhat impatient, marveling How all the earth could turn to greenness so, Small leaf by leaf. And then today, when I looked out This loveliness on lawn and pastureland Had fallen, or the magic rain Has washed away the brown. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HUNTING PHEASANTS IN A CORNFIELD by ROBERT BLY THREE KINDS OF PLEASURES by ROBERT BLY QUESTION IN A FIELD by LOUISE BOGAN THE LAST MOWING by ROBERT FROST FIELD AND FOREST by RANDALL JARRELL AN EXPLANATION by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON IN FIELDS OF SUMMER by GALWAY KINNELL UPON LEAVING THE BLACK HILLS by A.
