Black of night; soft-dripping rain; Lonely echo of a passing train; Fresh, sweet incense from the drenched plain. The wind, through tossing, fretting leaves, A murmuring tale of sorrow weaves. Alone in darkness, my heart grieves. The moon has hid her silver smile. She's missing you. The cricket's voice is hushed the while With tears, for you. Across the heavens, rain clouds file In stormy, melancholy style, Tempting my tears with mournful guile. Lost is e'en my saddest smile. I'm missing you. I live, benumbed with pain the while, In tears, for you. Across my heart sad visions file In solemn, melancholy style, Bruising my heart with mournful guile. Black of night; soft-dripping rain; Lonely echo of a passing train; Fresh, sweet incense from the drenched plain. The wind calls through the tossing leaves, Your name in chant of sorrow weaves. Alone, in darkness, my heart grieves. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HUNGERFIELD by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE MOURNER by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN HECUBA MOURNS by MARILYN NELSON THERE IS NO GOD BUT by AGHA SHAHID ALI IF I COULD MOURN LIKE A MOURNING DOVE by FRANK BIDART AUTUMN SCENE by E.
