INSOMNIA, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: I cannot sleep; the whole night through
Last Line: And now at dawn I cannot weep.
Subject(s): Insomnia; Night; Sleeplessness; Bedtime

I CANNOT sleep; the whole night through
My tortured soul cries out for you,
My frenzied hands in wild despair
Clutch passionately the empty air.

I cannot sleep; I see your name
Across the night in lettered flame,
And staring vaguely into space
I see the marvel of your face.

I cannot sleep; the stars above
Watch o'er you sleeping with your love,
And all your fair remembered charms
Lie wrapt in his encircling arms.

I cannot sleep; the veils are drawn,
And like a pallid ghost comes dawn,
All through the night I could not sleep,
And now at dawn I cannot weep.
