SONG TO MAY, by EDWARD HOVELL-THURLOW Poet's Biography First Line: May! Queen of blossoms Last Line: See, the lark quivers! Alternate Author Name(s): Thurlow, 2d Baron Subject(s): May (month) | ||||||||
MAY! queen of blossoms, And fulfilling flowers, With what pretty music Shall we charm the hours? Wilt thou have pipe and reed, Blown in the open mead? Or to the lute give heed In the green bowers? Thou hast no need of us, Or pipe or wire; Thou hast the golden bee Ripen'd with fire; And many thousand more Songsters, that thee adore, Filling earth's grassy floor With new desire. Thou hast thy mighty herds, Tame and free-livers; Doubt not, thy music too In the deep rivers; And the whole plumy flight Warbling the day and night -- Up at the gates of light, See, the lark quivers! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN THE MONTH OF MAY by ROBERT BLY VENICE: MAY DAY by KENNETH REXROTH EARLY MAY STANZAS by TOMAS TRANSTROMER HOME-THOUGHTS, FROM ABROAD by ROBERT BROWNING IN MAY by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR BEAUTY by EDWARD HOVELL-THURLOW THE SYLVAN LIFE by EDWARD HOVELL-THURLOW TO A BIRD [THAT HAUNTED THE WATERS OF LAAKEN IN THE WINTER] by EDWARD HOVELL-THURLOW |
