Now that the trap you laid Has caught this faun, Can you, prince, hold it fast From dawn to dawn? When slim faun turns to dove With timid wings, Will you dare close your heart To what it sings? When red-eyed, bitter fox Bloodies your hand, Will you have strength to knot A tighter band? Can twisting snake disgust, Gray toad repel One who has kept this long His vigil well? Others who bravely tried To set me free, Ere midnight slept had fled Some shape of me. But, prince, if you must fail, Drive home a knife. Defeating you, I want No more of life. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AN EMPTY THREAT by ROBERT FROST ELEGY FOR A TRAPPER by DAVID BOTTOMS BATEESE AND HIS LITTLE DECOYS by WILLIAM HENRY DRUMMOND BOULE by WILLIAM HENRY DRUMMOND A RAT TRAP by BELLE RICHARDSON HARRISON WOLVERINE by EMILY PAULINE JOHNSON THE TRAP by LAURA LOURENE LEGEAR BEYOND THE PRESENT CLAY by HAMLEN HUNT |
