HE WHO WAITS AT TWILIGHT, by LILLIAN CRANE HUNTER First Line: Did you ever sit at twilight Last Line: Is blessed beyond repay. Subject(s): Blessings; Evening; Home; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
Did you ever sit at twilight By your fireside's warmful glow, And try to count your blessings? It's an endless task, and so You just breathe a prayer of thankfulness, And sit with half-closed eyes, And listen to the rain outside, And the wind that blows and sighs. You are waiting for familiar steps, And voices at the door. The baby builds his magic roads of Blocks upon the floor. The evening meal is family hour, The happiest of the day, And he who waits at twilight, Is blessed beyond repay. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE FREDERICK DOUGLASS by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR |
