CONSUMMATION, by MORRIS HURLEY First Line: Abundant life is nature's law Last Line: To take you through the gates of heaven. Subject(s): Caregivers; Mothers; Parents; Teaching & Teachers; Parenthood; Educators; Professors | ||||||||
Abundant life is nature's law, And every known device is lent To gain, preserve and shroud in awe A wondrous, living element Which causes all to breathe and glow, From simplest forms through brain and brawn, As upward in life's scale we go, Progressing slowly with the dawn. Behold the mother with her child, A newborn dazzled in the light, So tender, helpless, sweet and mild, So strong and great in love's own might; And here, concentered into man, We find expression of the powers Which kept the spark whence it began And brought it safely through the hours. Here have they fused into this one A consciousness in highest form, With metamorphosis anon And mind resplendent as the norm; The power to balance and maintain Is a divine intelligence, To rule and govern every plane As wise and just omnipotence. Who will safeguard an infant soul For consummation of the mind, Expressing Godall nature's goal Regenerating self in kind, Though you may not the parent be Unto whose life the child is given, You'll find within its hands a key To take you through the gates of heaven. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CORRESPONDENCE-SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR SAYS GOODBYE TO HIS POETRY STUDENTS by GALWAY KINNELL GRATITUDE TO OLD TEACHERS by ROBERT BLY TWO RAMAGES FOR OLD MASTERS by ROBERT BLY ON FLUNKING A NICE BOY OUT OF SCHOOL by JOHN CIARDI HER MONOLOGUE OF DARK CREPE WITH EDGES OF LIGHT by NORMAN DUBIE OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE SEVERAL MEASURES FOR THE LITTLE LOST by NORMAN DUBIE |
