ARMISTICE DAY, by HELEN HUTCHCRAFT First Line: I can hear a sound Last Line: As the drums go by. Subject(s): Holidays; Parades; Peace; Veterans Day | ||||||||
I can hear a sound, As it comes this way, Of a martial band -- It is Armistice Day. In the roll of drums Where the march is led, I can hear the voice Of the brave young dead: "Peace, peace," Like a stifled sigh. "Peace, peace," As the drums go by. The parade goes on Up the gala street, With a blare of band And a tramp of feet. But I hear the voice Of the brave young dead, In the roll of drums Where the march is led: "Peace, peace," Like a pleading cry. "Peace, peace," As the drums go by. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CHRIST OF THE ANDES by EDWIN MARKHAM DRAW THE SWORD, O REPUBLIC by EDGAR LEE MASTERS MEMORIAL DAY by WILLIAM E.
