STALKING BEAUTY, by JOSEPHINE INGRAM First Line: Trotting ahead like an eager hound Last Line: The trail leads on with its nose to the ground. Subject(s): Beauty | ||||||||
Trotting ahead like an eager hound The trail leads upward over the hill; Plumed tail pointing, nose to the ground, It dips to the hollow where, darkly chill, Seaweed green and ocean cool Under a sagging, moss-hung bridge, Water lies in a fern draped pool -- Then up, and on to the highest ridge! He must be swift who would follow still In the wake of the silent, stalking hound When beauty is fleeing, and over the hill The trail leads on with its nose to the ground. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN DIVINELY SUPERFLUOUS BEAUTY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS LIFE FROM THE LIFELESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS REARMAMENT by ROBINSON JEFFERS SHANE ONEILLS CAIRN by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
