EVENING SONG, by EMMA GERTRUDE JAECK First Line: Soft hovers the twilight o'er field and hill Last Line: God is watching o'er human weal and woe. Subject(s): Night; Stars; Bedtime | ||||||||
Soft hovers the twilight o'er field and hill. The birds are still, heard only is a rill. The sun sinks to rest and glows in the sky, And twinkling, a star beckons from on high. Sweetly resound the evening bells of love, And fervent prayers arise to God above. And in the night while all sleep here below, God is watching o'er human weal and woe. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN MAYTIME by EMMA GERTRUDE JAECK |
