LAMENT OF A FAR EASTERN LOVER, by DOROTHY W. JANS First Line: A powder blue of velvet is the sky Last Line: Searching infinity for jasma's face. Subject(s): Absence; Separation; Isolation | ||||||||
A powder blue of velvet is the sky, A crown of gold which slowly passes by, Here comes the dawn, here comes the dawn. The rainbow sparkle of the virgin dew, The far off chanting of a sampan crew, Here comes the dawn, here comes the dawn. The sun! red as Jasma's cheek, Warm as Jasma's kiss, Mounts into the blue. The sun! flaming at its peak, Like our lover's bliss, Passing from my view. Ah, the dreaded glory of the night, Puts the day to flight. Ah, the heavy blackness of despair Is everywhere. Love, whither have you flown Leaving me alone, here. Love, life is but a hell, A bottomless well of fear. I am but a star whirling through space, Searching infinity for Jasma's face. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE EVENING OF THE MIND by DONALD JUSTICE CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME by JANE KENYON THE PROBLEM by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES WHEN A WOMAN LOVES A MAN by DAVID LEHMAN |
