LAKE KAMPESKA, by ADELINE M. JENNEY First Line: God, you have walked with us here! Last Line: That for you is the earnest of onset. Subject(s): God; Prayer; Worship | ||||||||
God, you have walked with us here! In winds that stir these tall poplars, And ripple the water's low circle To chrysoprase netted with light, Or whiten it into swift breakers, Or kindle to delicate rhythms These clovers and mints and slim grasses. God, you have talked with us here! Of power, in that broad jag of lightning; Of law, in diurnal progressions Of stars through the spray of the tree tops; Of love, in this oriole's nesting; Of peace, as, with twilight and moonrise, Steal shadowy lappings of waters. God, you have shined on us here! In the luminous lift of the heavens; Now blue as the regal male sapphire; Now dimmed by a low mist that hushes All motions to duskiest silvers; Now brimming with sun-flooded clouds Like the twelve, great, radiant jewels John saw as he worshipped on Patmos. God, you have blazed for us here A path to your Ultimate Presence, Through this intimate kinship with motion, With light and with sound and with silence, Till we grow to The People Who Care In the struggles, the hungers, the passions That force your worlds on to that Goal That for you is the earnest of onset. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN RUSSIAN CATHEDRAL by CLAUDE MCKAY LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON A STEEPLE ON THE HOUSE by ROBERT FROST MATE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ANSWER TO PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS by GEORGE SANTAYANA A LITTLE HOPE by ADELINE M.
