MY MORNING PRAYER, by ANNA FRENCH JOHNSON First Line: When every head is bowed Last Line: Before heaven's door -- my prayer! Subject(s): Morning; Prayer | ||||||||
When every head is bowed And Father, so firm and loud, Tells the dear Lord all That he ought to know -- and more -- Then I'm out the door With a soft flutter of wings, Straight past Mars, Up among the stars. Soon a Golden Portal gleams, Beside me a Shining Presence seems; My eager thanks before Him I pour; Urgent beggings too, and petitions Beseech without conditions. He listens, wordless, tender; Then with a smile of understanding, Gives peace for my demanding. Suddenly earth-words again -- "This we ask for Jesus' sake, Amen;" "One more cookie, please!" "Muz, this coffee wouldn't hurt a flea, Much less me!" Cookies I pass -- beige coffee I pour, Still steeped in my tryst with the Infinite there Before Heaven's door -- my prayer! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY HAD SPRING NOT COME by ANNA FRENCH JOHNSON |
