IMITATION, by LOUISE A. JOHNSON First Line: Some flowers from my boy away Last Line: The likeness may be true, though dim. Subject(s): Flowers; Mother's Day; Paintings & Painters | ||||||||
Some flowers from my boy away Sweet roses for my "Mother's Day"! I try to paint their loveliness But, in despair, I must confess My hand has never had the power To portray truly such a flower. For God alone can tint each hue. I cannot make the picture true. His hand can give the touch divine, Completely lacking this of mine. Elusive beautyfragrance rare They touch my heart. I breathe a prayer. I ask of Him, Who can create What I can only imitate, That, as we pattern after Him, The likeness may be true, though dim. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...1801: AMONG THE PAPERS OF THE ENVOY TO CONSTANTINOPLE by RICHARD HOWARD VENETIAN INTERIOR, 1889 by RICHARD HOWARD THERE IS A GOLD LIGHT IN CERTAIN OLD PAINTINGS by DONALD JUSTICE DUTCH INTERIORS by JANE KENYON INVITATION TO A PAINTER: 3 by WILLIAM ALLINGHAM THE CHINA PAINTERS by TED KOOSER ELEGY FOR SOL LEWITT by ANN LAUTERBACH ON THE SEPARATION OF ADAM AND EVE by TIMOTHY LIU AN OLD WOMAN WALKING ON THE ROAD by LOUISE A.
