It was such a short time ago, When everything beautiful which I came across, Every poem, every picture, every sunset, I would store in my memory, or carry some way with-in me, In order to have the double pleasure of feeling it, again, with you. And I worshiped that sharing For the intense joy I received from it, And because it broke down those selfish barriers Which years of loneliness had wrought within me. So I would hunt avidly for things of beauty, And the looking keened my eye and filed my soul Until I could find beauty in every nook of the universe. Now a sort of a veil has come between us; A thin, transparent thing which keeps us apart, So that I do not show my little treasures For fear you no longer care to see, or understand. And my eye has again grown dim; my soul blunted.
