SONGS IN SPRING, by
First Line: In spring I sought to live in peace
Last Line: Is freed from its prison.
Subject(s): Freedom; Liberty

In spring I sought to live in peace
And bask in the calm of green depths,
And watch, as, with a jeweler's eye
The diamond stars on a blue velvet sky,
Lighting the fields, where my body lay
In wondrous freshness, cooled by the fingers
Of the swaying grass; and wrapped in the soil
That will claim my dust, when my substance
Is freed from its prison.
