LOVE IS KIND, by BENJAMIN KEECH Poet's Biography First Line: Each man is limited by inborn traits Last Line: And none should other's worthy effort spoil. | ||||||||
Each man is limited by inborn traits; Beyond a certain point he cannot go; The wise excel in high or low estates; The good mock not good workers just below. If one can lift a weight of half a ton, Give him full credit, yet not praise him more Than one who, lifting less, his best has done, Nor give the latter less than actual score. We grant that each has striven toward the best, Yet judge by failure, not by worth or toil. The "highest" is not worthier than the rest, And none should other's worthy effort spoil. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LITTLE WORDS by BENJAMIN KEECH TRUE TO THE BEST by BENJAMIN KEECH AT THE BRITISH MUSEUM by RICHARD ALDINGTON THE LANDING OF THE PILGRIM FATHERS IN NEW ENGLAND [NOVEMBER 19, 1620] by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS THE THREE FISHERS by CHARLES KINGSLEY ARMS AND THE BOY by WILFRED OWEN WALT WHITMAN'S CAUTION by WALT WHITMAN OVID TO HIS WIFE: IMITATED FROM DIFFERENT PARTS OF TRISTIA by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD |
