FOCUSED TO REALITY, by ZOE KERNICK First Line: Within the hidden realm of change and flow Last Line: For every well they dipped into was dry. Subject(s): Beauty; Sonnet (as Literary Form) | ||||||||
Within the hidden realm of change and flow, Beauty the poet seeks with abstract zest, The fine idea of beauty, not the show Of color that makes beauty manifest, Till wonder urges levels into sight, Not forced by thought, not rich with bastard dye, But focused to reality by light, That conjures vision in a poet's eye. Beauty has been the realm that he foresaw, Yet this is more than beauty in distress: A million people stooping low to draw Water from a well of holiness, Dropping their crocks upon the earth, to cry, For every well they dipped into was dry. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI STUDY FOR A GEOGRAPHICAL TRAIL; 1.
