ICEBERGS, by
First Line: I saw a northern iceberg go
Last Line: By all the warmth of human kind.
Subject(s): Icebergs

I saw a northern iceberg go
Through Arctic's all-eternal snow.
'Twas driven south by wintry blast
And came to southern climes at last.
Then tropic sun, with magic art,
Thawed and warmed its icy heart.

I saw a human iceberg go
Through stormy seas of human woe,
And all bright thoughts of love and life
Were crushed and killed by selfish strife.
The love of homes and friends could not
The sordid things of nature blot;
So cold and lone he always sought
The things his egoism bought.
Thus drifting far from human thought
The chill of isolation brought,
And wafted him to frozen seas,
Congealed by every wintry breeze;
And cold and lone, in iceberg bound,
His heart beats not to warmer sound;
But banned by all of human kind,
He mourns in isolation blind
And cannot free his fettered mind
By all the warmth of human kind.
