CATASTROPHE AS DULUTH SCHOLASTICA CRASHES, by NANCY KING First Line: A symphony of calm quiescence - life Last Line: A buddy seen beneath the mask of death. | ||||||||
A symphony of calm quiescence -- life, Till a discordant crash, that mingles fear With harsh reality; the sky, once clear, Is red with mangled bodies, civil strife; The agonizing groans of brutes who try To grit their teeth and suffocate, but pain Has made them weep, those men who strain To let their fellow workers know they lie Beneath debris, all gory, crushed, inert; A mournful dirge beats on reluctant ears As shovels strike on flesh. Some grimy tears Are wiped away on cuffs as men desert Their posts to turn their backs and catch a breath, -- A buddy seen beneath the mask of death. | Other Poems of Interest...THE WILD HONEYSUCKLE by PHILIP FRENEAU INTO BATTLE by JULIAN GRENFELL WHAT THE ENGINE SAYS by ALEXANDER ANDERSON THREE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON VALUES by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE THE WANDERER: 1.
